Wellington Harriers Honest 10K

We (Wellington Harriers) have been wanting to create a “run for runners run by runners” for a while.  So, the “Honest 10” monthly 10k kicks off this coming Sunday (18 May) at 9am from the Wind Needle (Evans Bay).  The Council has given us permission to run the event on every 3rd Sunday Morning through until Oct (when they will review how it has gone).  From June we will be charging $10 but to mark the inaugural event this weekend’s race is free.

It is “Honest” as it has been professionally (and accurately) measured, is out and back, and will no doubt keep the runners honest with a head wind at least one way!

We are planning on providing at least 2 pacemakers to help runners in the 40-60 minute bracket reach a new PB (pace to be determined by who turns up – this week possibly a 40 min pacer and a 50 or 55 min pacer).

There will be accurate km markers with time calls at every km.

There will be a drinks table at about the 3.5km mark (and therefore the 6.5km as well) to help ward off dehydration as a result of Wellington’s balmy weather.

We’ll even be throwing in some sports drink (and water) at the finish to help recovery.

If we can cope, we are also going to try to get finishers photos and make them available for free download (if our tech savvy club members can get that to work).

So, all in all we hope to be putting on an “Honest 10” once a month that will appeal to serious (and not so serious) runners in greater Wellington.  The race has to be on the footpath but hopefully numbers won’t be too overwhelming to start with at least!

Come and join us this Sunday morning 18th May 2014 at 9.00am
Event: Wellington Harriers Honest 10k (with an optional 5k run)
Cost: Free for the inaugural event
