Born Wellington Educated at St Pats Town & Victoria University.
Ran at Onslow Athletic club from a young age-represented Wellington at 800 metres.
Played rugby for Onslow also from young age, moved through the grades to senior status, playing on the wing. Won the Jubilee Cup 1963 & top try scorer.
Represented Wellington at rugby (ITM level) for 2 years until serious knee injury forced retirement.
After recovery returned to running with Wellington Harriers.
Ran first marathon around the peninsula in what was then the Olympic Club marathon later converted to City of Wellington Marathon which I sponsored from my store Runners World.
Established Runners World in 70’s the first ever complete running store in New Zealand. Launched the Nike (goddess of victory) brand into NZ.
Ran first marathon in 3hr 40m improved this over the years to 2hrs 36min in Hamilton. Won the Vets section see photo.
Have run Rotorua Marathon around 13/14 times best effort 2hrs 40min.
Gained level 3 middle & long distance coaching status when it was introduced to certify New Zealand athletic coaches. Coached both men & women to representative & NZ honours including cross country events. Organised coaching courses in association with other leading coaches including Arthur Lydiard & Arch Jelley.
With running companion Dr Alan Thomson decided to establish a Marathon Clinic similar to that in Hamilton, the rest is history.
