Weekly Report 07 May 2017

Rotorua marathon this weekend, so best of luck to those of you taking part – hopefully the weather will have settled down by then.

Congrats to all of you who took part in the Masters Games.  We hope you had a fabulous time.  And if you want to send your results in, then click here and I’m sure Stan will be happy to post on the website.

Thanks to Fem for last Sundays session.  Her next one will be on Sunday 21st May, so pop that date in your diaries.  The next group session at Fem’s studio, 30 Courtenay Place is Friday 12th May at 7.30am.

Footsteps of the Marines/Bus trip:  all happening on 28th May.  We got the entry fees a bit wrong last week – oops. So the correct amount is:  $25 ($30 for late entries).  Apparently the link I put in last weeks report wasn’t working for a while, but it is now, so you can have a look at the details by clicking here – this takes you to the site, then click on the event info box in the top right hand corner – just give it a minute or so to load up.

Wellington Marathon June:  The Heart Foundation are the official charity partner for the Wellington Marathon 2017 and are looking to recruit a record number of Heart Racers this year to raise vital funds for the Heart Foundation. This is the info they’ve sent through, and if you are keen to join their fund raising team, then follow the link below:

Are you running in one of the distances at the Wellington Marathon this year? If you are then sign up as a Heart Racer and help raise vital funds for the Heart Foundation.  Every Heart Racer receives a Heart Racer dry-fit running tshirt, regular newsletter with training/nutrition / fundraising advice, an online fundraising page, plus a FitBit Surge for those who raise over $750!  Join Team Heart Racer now to help save lives everydayhero.co.nz/event/wellington-marathon-2017

Weekly Report format:  Stan, Wim and myself will be having a discussion next week on some changes we’ve been considering for this report and it’s content – hopefully encouraging a bit more input / information from various people.  We’ll keep you posted on any progress.

Writing a weekly report is quite a burden on just one person.
On behalf of the WMC, thanks Rob Julian and Jillian Preston for your time, effort and contributions to the weekly report for many years.
With agreement from the committee, it’s now time to share the load.

New WMC Newsletter: Statement of Intent

We will compile the weekly report with editors and contributors from the WMC community and our associates; and save selected articles on the website for general public consumption.

Upcoming articles in the report will come from the intersection of running, walking and life.

That is, we will be providing more than just articles about members running/walking in events.

The WMC’s strength is our membership and our shared knowledge and experiences, which is not truly reflected on the website.
Over time, we hope this content will attract new members to the club.

The current content will continue to be included in the newsletter:

  • Committee matters
  • upcoming bus trips
  • social events
  • member event results

We will supplement this content with other columns on a regular or semi-regular basis. Proposed columns are:

  • training
  • health and well being (includes Fem’s articles)
  • running tracks around Wellington and abroad, and their history
  • member profiles
  • An editor’s or guest editor’s column (could be non-member) and they could write about anything..
  • interesting facts and figures about running/walking or WMC (includes different graphical representations)

We are looking for contributors (writers and/or investigators) whether this is on a regular or casual basis.
Drop us a line on Contact WMC if you want to help out.
Otherwise we may be tapping you on the shoulder for a contribution šŸ™‚

-Stan

In the meantime try and stay warm and dry.
