Weekly Report 14 May 2017

Congratulations to those of you who took part in Rotorua marathon last week.  Wim sent a few results in (see message from President Mike below), if you’re not listed there, then send your results through Contact WMC to get added.

It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, so make sure you look after the mother’s in your groups – even though they aren’t your mother!

Mike’s message:

It was good to see a great turnout last Sunday at the ASB centre, despite the start of duck shooting and the Rotorua Marathon the day before.  I was expecting a cool morning, but while it was overcast, it was also a bit muggy so I felt decidedly overdressed for my run.

We had two new runners on Sunday – Carol a fast walker and Jill a fast runner.  Both enjoyed their morning outing, so thanks to those of you who looked after them, and we hope to see them join us again.

Congratulations to all those of you who participated a the World Masters Games over the last month – if they are anything like any of the international events that I have been to, they are great social occasions, as well as an opportunity to see and participate in some testing races.  I never cease to be amazed at the depth of talent that is exhibited at these types of events.

Congratulations also to all those who completed the Rotorua marathon – some times  from Wim below.

Brian 3:45 and first in his division, Gordie 3:55, Nigel 4:57, Wim 3:37, Jas 3:12 (half) Dave 1:52 and Rach 1:46 (both halves), and Wendy 7:05 – a big day at the office.

Do have a look at our facebook page for the comments and photos from our members.

I am doing the planning for the Footsteps of the Marines on May 28th – the link will be up shortly for the instructions and pickup times as well as options for those not entering the event its self.  I would ask that you indicate below if you are intending to join us. We will not have the ASB for that Sunday. (more details in the link below, plus the list for the bus is at the bottom of this notice – Jillian).

The Committee met last month and agreed to keep Meghan on as our Sunday room minder – so we can expect to see more algebra books each Sunday.  We are planning a few extra activities for the winter period and will keep you posted as plans progress.

See you all next Sunday.

Mike Candy, President

Weekly Report format:  Stan, Wim and myself had a discussion this week about changes we’ve been considering for this report and it’s content – hopefully encouraging a bit more input / information from various people.  What we’re proposing (subject to approval from the committee at their next meeting) is that the report will come out monthly (rotated between the 3 of us at this stage) with the odd reminders (eg Bus trips/changes to meeting venue/important notices of interest to members etc) sent out between reports when needed.  The report will link in with the committee meetings which are held the 3rd Monday of the month, so anything appropriate from these meetings can be added to the report, so look for them around the 3rd Thursday of the month from next week.  In the report, we will remind you of anything coming up for the following month, and further down the track will include articles of interest on things like training, health/nutrition, local running/walking routes, member profiles, overseas event reports etc. There’s bound to be some teething problems, so please bear with us while we work through the process.

One of OursAnd one of our long term members has shown up in the news lately. Well spotted Mark Growcott.

Have a good week, and we may see you Sunday
