Weekly Report 28 May 2017

Just a quick reminder about the bus trip this Sunday, 28th May, and some updates from Mike after the committee meeting on Monday:

Another committee meeting this week, keeping the wheels well oiled and turning…

Next Sunday is our Footsteps of the Marines away trip, so we do not have the Stadium as a base.  We will leave the stadium at 7.45 am sharp on Sunday and should be back about 1:30 ish.  We will do the usual pickups on the way through town (see the note here). PLEASE RECHECK PICK-UP TIMES AS THEY ARE EARLIER THAN USUAL. There are several groups intending to do various outings before we get to Paekakariki – Anna and Brian are looking at running the Escarpment track, (Tony and Terry will be walking it),  and Jillian’s group are looking to head for the beach.  We will be picking up at the Parkakariki Shopping centre on our return leg.  We will be touch and go getting to the event for the walker and slow runner start at 9am, but will have plenty of time for the running start at 10 am. Please make sure you are entered if you wish to do the event. Please make sure you have food and clothing suitable for the likely conditions on the day.

We were advised that our movie night clashes with the All Blacks playing the Lions in Wellington, so in deference to our national sport Gordie has agreed to look at an alternative weekend.  As soon as we have that we will get the details out to you.  I look forward to seeing you all in the fan zone on the waterfront that evening…

The committee elected not to endorse my suggestion to subsidise WMC entrants to the Wellington Marathon, but I will ensure that any WMC entrants are eligible for the $5 discount offered by the event organiser.  If you have already paid your entry let me know and I will sort out a refund.

The organiser has opted to use the Heart Foundation for event registration and race pack stuffing this year as they are keen to raise funds for their charity.  That is a good cause so I am happy for that, and it takes some of the pressure off us to provide bodies.  Our members will still be undertaking specific functions on race day and I have spoken to most of you.  If anyone is keen to help on race day around the event and I have not talked to you please let me know.

The committee is planning to canvas members and past members for their thoughts, so please watch this space, and we are meeting with Sport Wellington later this week to discuss synergies between the WMC and other events.

I’ll see you all next Sunday.

Mike.
