What started you running/walking?
We wanted to get fit for other sports: hockey (Janet) and badminton.
We joined Hawkes Bay Marathon Clinic in 1979, and when we got to Wellington in 1986 we joined WMC.
Who has influenced your running/walking the most?
Arthur Lydiard – we only met him very briefly, but have followed his methods
Why do you walk long distances, and why with the clinic?
Because it feels so good when you stop! and we like the social contact.
What other sports interests do you have?
Most memorable track?
The Routeburn down south and Jumbo Holdsworth in the North Island
- Janet – the Rotorua Fletcher marathon. My least favourite was the Christchurch marathon
- Bruce – The Hawkes Bay marathon
Good shoes. Today, we also need decent coats!
You’ve invited 3 dream guests over for a dinner party, who are they?
- Janet: Bruce (naturally), Jacinda Adern, Tom Scott
- Bruce: Janet, Gaudi, James Cook
But isn’t that six guests, well four I guess … and that’s not how you spell our fast pack leader! Oh, you mean the Spanish architect (bad luck Gordie).
