What do you do when you are not running?
I work at St Mark’s Church School as the School Administrator. It is a very busy office to run but extremely rewarding. When I’m not at work I love spending time with my family and friends although now that the kids are older they tend to want to hang out with their friends more. Now that we’ve got a gorgeous little granddaughter I hope we get to have her more. I also enjoy getting out in my garden (something I definitely inherited from my dad who was well known for having the best garden in the street).
I started running because walking was taking up too much of my time and with three children it was getting difficult to juggle everything – pretty ironic as now I can say the same about running!
The people that have influenced my running the most is definitely all the wonderful people I have met at The Wellington Marathon Clinic – you know who you are.
Why do you run long distances, and why with the clinic?
Running for me has become an addiction, I get quite ‘titchy if I haven’t been for my run that’s why I’m not very good at tapering. But to answer your question I find doing the long distances challenging and I always play it safe so doing the distance certainly gets me out of my comfort zone. Why with the clinic? Because of the great company, friendships and the sharing of knowledge.
What other sports interests do you have?
I played indoor netball for a while and have always gone to the gym. I also love watching my boys play soccer. My daughter has also joined a rowing team at uni – that’ll be interesting to watch.
My most memorable track is the Great Forest Run at Waitarere Beach, Levin. A good friend of mine has named this the DANGER DANGER run. I love it because of the hurdles you come across.
I would have said the Great Forest Run but now that I’ve done the Xterra Wind Farm Makara run this is my favourite to date. The sense of satisfaction and achievement I felt when I finished was amazing.
Do you have an essential Running accessory?
My sunnies and good earphones
You’re having a dinner party and can invite any 3 people, dead or alive. Who do you invite and why?
Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac, Bono from U2 and my mum. Why???? Because I never tire of listening to Stevie Nicks and Bono and my mum because she was my best friend.
